There are over 540 single-sex schools throughout the U.S. since 2010. Schools are always experiencing problems Gaspar 2 with bullying, but nowadays words are beginning to be the main factor to h urting people s feelings. Males have been found to be the dominant gender in coeducational schools, making them superior or powerful over the others. This leads to girls feeling weak and powerless in the struggle to overcome the male gene in schools. Single-sex schooling takes this conflict away by limiting each gender to the same type of people. Kenneth Jost, author of the Supreme Court Yearbook and The Supreme Court from A to Z published by the CQ Press wrote â€Å"[b]y going to single-sex schools it can help girls’ self-esteem and potentially makes males calmer,† (29). Females in coeducational schools feel that males dominate the classroom by receiving more recognition, allowance for misbehavior and encouragement. Girls also no longer have to worry about constantly doing everything they can to make themselves appear better looking for the males. Same goes for the boys, always having to worry about what they are wearing and their physical impressions. By not having to worry about these unnecessary steps, students will be using their time more wisely. A better attitude towards school leads to being more

Hunger Games free essay sample

The Hunger Games Essay By: Yasmeen Sahibzada The Hunger Games is a story of a 16-year old young adult named Katniss Everdeen who changes by her fate of entering the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is an annual televised fight to the death. This event is held to entertain the Capitol. The Capitol is a utopian city where the Panem’s most powerful and wealthy live. Over the course of the book, Katniss enters the games, finds fake love, becomes a part of the star crossed lovers, and finds herself not able to let go of the boy with the bread. In the beginning of the book, Katniss is already well matured and takes the leadership role in her family. Although she is practically an adult, she cannot handle the stress when her sheltered sister is chosen to be in the Hunger Games. Due to this stress, Katniss volunteers herself in the games. We will write a custom essay sample on Hunger Games or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In her time in the games, Katniss fully understands how life as part of the districts is meant to be. The Capitol dictates everyone’s life purposes and cannot be changed. Katniss has formed a real bond with Peeta (the boy with the bread†¦long story) who is faking their love for their immunity. Afraid to lose Peeta, they both pretend to eat poisonous berries so they will both win the games. This angers the Capitol because they have just been shown as weak but cannot purposely murder their victors and still seem innocent in all this chaos. Towards the end of the book, Katniss can really hold her own. Now, instead of only risking her own life in this act of defiance, she has sparked a rebellion in the districts. Katniss is the Girl on Fire, named for her distinct costume in the tribute parade. It is now Katniss against the oppressive government. This is the time when Katniss decided that she is the change that Panem has needed for the past 74 years. The theme of The Hunger Games is simply manipulation. Everybody living in Panem was trained to think the Capitol made the games to protect the people from another civil war when really, the games were made to show the people of Panem who’s boss and to not mess with them. They are forced to send their kids off to their guaranteed death but they can’t do anything about it because the Capitol is in control. The fact that Katniss overlooked the lies she was fed to realize the truth shows a lot on her character. In conclusion, I really enjoyed reading The Hunger Games. The writing was at Collins’ all time high, considering she also wrote for Little Bear, a show that I loved as a child. I enjoy very futuristic and rebellious series. This is the main reason as to why The Hunger Games sparked my attention.

What do you think is the most significant change in correctional Essay - 4

What do you think is the most significant change in correctional policy in the last 100 years and why important - Essay Example These groups have been attributed for the major changes in the correctional facilities. Changes in the correctional institutions range from decongestion, improved security and increased human contact with relatives. In all the implemented changes in correctional facilities, the most significant change is the change regarding the mentally disabled or unfit. Prior to the past century, mentally disabled individuals were held in the same correctional facilities as the normal persons. This was a breach of human rights according to modern day states. There should be a distinction between normal individuals and mentally disabled individuals as far as convictions are concerned. In many instances, mentally disabled individuals commit crimes unknowingly. In past centuries this claim was insignificant an all convicts were treated to the same levels of punishment (Doris & Frieda, pp, 102). Mentally disabled persons unknowingly commit crimes without their consent. This claim has been used by human rights. According to Levinson (pp. 39) the insane individuals in society should be given exceptions as far as convictions are concerned. In the 21st century, the most significant change in correctional facilities is the exclusion of mentally disabled persons in normal correctional institutions. The sensitivity of human nature has definitely increased for cing people in society to advocate for proper and secluded correctional facilities for the mentally disabled. In 2007, there was the emergence of the mental health act. This act advocated for a compulsory test to all potential inmates. This enabled the mentally disabled persons to give logic reasons as to why they committed crimes. The importance of this act was very significant because many serious federal offenders tested positive to mental instability. According to Landsberg (pp. 117) mentally instability individuals stand in a high position to commit crimes without their knowledge.

Process Approach to Project Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Process Approach to Project Management - Essay Example More and more executives realise that project management provides significant benefits for their businesses, for example such as those mentioned by Kerzner (2006: p.47): (1) â€Å"accomplishment of more work in less time, with fewer people†; (2) providing â€Å"better control of scope changes†; (3) making the organisation â€Å"more efficient and effective through better organisational behaviour principles†; (4) allowing â€Å"to work more closely with customers†; (5) providing â€Å"a means for solving problems†, (6) making â€Å"good company decisions† and (7) â€Å"delivering right solutions†. One can say that today project management is increasingly becoming one of the major organisational approaches in the government of enterprises. Numerous methods and managerial concepts have been proposed by PM researchers and practitioners in order to ensure effective management of projects. This paper is aimed to give an overview of the proce ss approach to project management, which represents one of the key methodologies of modern theory of project management. The remaining content of the paper is organised as follows. Section 3 introduces the main definitions and conceptions of project management theory and process approach in PM, among which the concepts of project life cycle, project stakeholders and project success are of a special importance. Section 4 discusses several issues related to the process approach in project management; the discussion is made on the basis of research of the state-of-the-art literature and real case studies analysis. The findings presented in section 4 are evaluated and the recommendations, made on the basis of evaluation, are offered in the section 5. The final section 6 provides a conclusion drawn from the study. 3.0 Introduction In 1959 Harvard Business Review published the article of Gaddis â€Å"The Project Manager†, in which a project was defined at the first time as â€Å"a n organization unit dedicated to the attainment of a goal — generally the successful completion of a developmental product on time, within budget, and in conformance with predetermined performance specifications† (Gaddis 1959: p.89). Since that, a project has been defined many times by many other scholars and organisations, for example: â€Å"A project is a temporary endeavour undertaken to create a unique product or service. Temporary means that every project has a definite beginning and a definite end. Unique means that the product or service is different in some distinguishing way from all similar products or services† (PMI 1996: p.4). â€Å"A project is an organised endeavour aimed at accomplishing a specific, non-routine or low-volume task† (Salvendy 2001: p.1242). All definitions emphasise a project as a unique activity that has three distinctive characteristics: time (schedule, well-defined duration), cost (resources dedicated to achievement of goal s) and quality (desired outcome) defined by specification – â€Å"the nature and scope of what has to be achieved† (Harrison & Lock 2004: p.5). Demeulemeester and Herroelen (2002) mention another common element – a goal or objective of a project. Schwalbe (2010) makes an important addition that a project is always temporary and it always involves uncertainty. Soderlund (2004) agrees that the universal elements of a project are â€Å"uniqueness, task complexity and time-limitedness† (p.185). In addition, Gido & Clements (2009: p.6) assert that any project has a customer, which is â€Å"
